hi, i was having a problem with my laptop, it won't boot. So I was trying to get to the recovery console, boot with the different version of a windows cd, but it ended up installing it. Now i can boot my laptop only if i select the new version. It's a good thing that i have the chance to save my important data to an usb stick.
But now, I want to get back to work and use my laptop again. In a healthy way. But the problem is. I noticed that the new windows has no antivirus installed, sound card, or anything else i use to have. I don't mind installing the other program like realplayer or other stuff. But I have no cd to install the important softwares(or drivers?).
I know that the drivers or the programs are still in my laptop. But since I CAN'T open the older version of windows, i don't think i can make any back up or using the wizard thingy for the drivers or software. (sorry for the terms, i'm new at this)
So basically the question is,
how to install the old drivers or softwares from the unbootable windows version to the new one?
(antivirus, internet connection, soundcard, and many important basic things) it's in the same laptop though. And once again, I have no other cd. I only have xp cd.
Please help me, cause i really don't know what to do. I can't even activate the antivirus since I can't connect to the internet. Or even change the volume. I've read somewhere that if you install a new windows, you have to install the other softwares all over. But the problem is, those are the ones that came with the laptop, so I have no cd whatsoever. If you could help me, please do. I know it's probably taking your time off in the middle of the night, day or afternoon. But I'm kinda desperate, taking it to the service will cost me too much money which i can't afford to loose right now. Any kind of suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. :)
Many thanks in advance :)

It is more than likely that the old drivers are on the computer, but need to be installed onto the new operating system. So, do this.
Go to start%26gt; then open Run. Type: devmgmt.msc
This will open a program.
There should be expanded menus with icons that have ';!'; warning things on them. This means the driver is not installed. Right click on the things with warnings on them and click update driver. (I would do the one for your Internet modem/or eithernet adapter first so you can get on the internet if you need to download any drivers) You may have to click properties and go to update driver depending upon different versions of windows. Have the computer search automatically. If it finds the driver it may just install on its own or you may have to go through an install wizard. Do this for all the drivers shown as not installed.
If they all were found on you computer (they should be) then you should restart and reopen the device manager.
If any were unable to be found and installed or reappeared as not installed after you restart and reopen the device manager, then on the internet (if you didn't get the eithernet controller or modem installed you'll need to use another computer to do ethernet controller would be what I would search for my eithernet controller AKA the internet thingy). Upon searching you should find links to the manufacter's website where you can download the driver and install it. Do this for all those not found on your computer. If the internet is one that needs installed, then you will need to download the file to a disk or usb key(some times USB drivers must be installed and may not work) Then run or extract the files to the C:\Windows folder and install it.
Its a complicated thing to discribe espectially since you have more than just one driver missing. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an e-mail or message. How to move drivers from the unbootable windows?
Hi Jane
See whatever is there in the other drives or the unbootable part, mainly the installed programs are of no use to your new Windows.
Sorry to mention, even copying the installed files from those places and putting it under the new Windows will not help but rather create more chaos.
Only if you can see the other drives from your new Windows and select and copy the driver installation files. Then you can copy them into your new My Documents and select each and run. It will install your drivers. Same goes with other softwares.
If you can not even see the old drives from your new Windows, it only means those drives are unformatted and you have also lost Hard disk space. Please use your Windows CD and boot it again. Go for format. Format the un-see-able drives.
Though you can use other data files.

Now if you can not even see the other drives in your old windows, what you should do is:
Connect to internet. Go to Avast.
Avast! Home Edition - free antivirus. As of now more than 1 million customers are using it.
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-鈥?/a>
Once you dowload it, before installing please register. Free registration for 1 year. You just have to give your email and they will send you the product registrataion key withing 5 minutes.
Then after installing, Start Avast Antivirus. Paste the key here. Then set the protection levels in high. And set updation to automatic. Also merge the ';i'; icon with the ';a'; icon in the extreme right of your task bar. and set the VRDB when computer is idle.
--------------------------------------鈥?br>
Once your laptop is antivirus active, go to your laptop manufacturer's website and find out the link where from you can download all the drivers suitable for your laptop.
This downloading is free and can be done as many times as you want.
Download the drivers and install them.
