I feel like people/dating/popularity in High School is immature. Do you? PLEASE ANSWER!!! =)?

I'm a freshman, but I'm not happy. It feels like I'm the only one who cares about my academics and dosn't care about impressing. Here are some grievances I have. Sorry If they're rude, but I'm just so mad right now!!





*Ditzy people: The girls seem ditzy and too obsessed with materialistic things. They need to grow up.





*Popularity: Please, like I'm going to kiss the @ss of other students to be more liked. I'm secure without codependence.





*Dating: I don't think declaring you love someone 2 days after learning their name is really genuine. I hate how people always go ';Do you have a boyfriend?!?!?'; and stuff like that like it's an effin trophy. People at my school actually date the hottest people just to become popular! Ugh!





(I鈥檇 like to add that some relationships can be serious, but I鈥檝e only seen one like that.)





*Sports: I鈥檇 like to actually see someone put ';I can run a 40 yard dash in 4.8'; on a college app. I realize you want to be fit, and it may be fun, but it's taken too seriously. People are always talking about who the best players are ect ect. Enjoy the game and worry about banging the blondes after they get tested.





*Cheating (Academically): I had the ';Popular'; advisory class last year. There were 5 students who would come in and ask ';Did we have any Spanish homework? Did you do that packet?'; And people would help them so they'd become more popular. If you didn't help them, they'd whine and gossip.





In fact, I never saw them come in with finished papers...





*Stereotyping: I wore glasses, played games, loved computers, and got strait A's last year. I got stereotyped as a wimp since I have chronic asthma and can't gain weight (It's hard to believe but it's true). People were always trying to act big and tough to get me to share homework or test answers. Some football player got in a fight with me since I wouldn鈥檛 help him write a HTML page. He tried to punch me in slow motion. I just moved a bit and sucker punched him. He cried.





*Attitude: Just because you have a couple more friends (and they aren鈥檛 trophies, don鈥檛 say they are.) doesn鈥檛 mean you鈥檙e better then me.





*Clothes: I don鈥檛 mind if you wear stuff from a thrift store IMHO. If you wear 70$ Abercrombie and Holister shirts, you鈥檙e trying too hard. I don鈥檛 mind AE and Aero since they鈥檙e extremely comfy and affordable.


To girls, please be more conservative. Don鈥檛 stuff your boobs, wear XXS鈥檚 instead of a M, and tie back shirts.





*Skating: Don鈥檛 wear a million Bam Margta (SP?) Element T-Shirts if you havn鈥檛 even stepped on a board. I think power to you if you wear skater style clothes, just don鈥檛 wear like skateboard brand products because they鈥檙e popular. Element, DC, and DGK for example shouldn鈥檛 be worn if you don鈥檛 know what they are.





*Rebelling: I鈥檇 like to see you try. See what it does to your freshman year. My sister bombed hers since she was rebelling to fit in.





*Drugs: Don鈥檛 poison yourself because it looks cool, or they did it on MTV.





*Music: Don鈥檛 listen to what you don鈥檛 like, and don鈥檛 criticize taste. If someone likes Techno/Rave, let them be.





Rap is very unoriginal, in my opinion. Don鈥檛 listen to Rap songs that have a million curse words at church (This happened, actually.)





*iPhones: You have to be kidding if you think this is actually a good deal. These are REALLY expensive and have crazy bills. Don鈥檛 buy them, buy normal iPods. A 200$ ipod and 100$ phone + 20 a month is better then 400$ + 100 a month (What my sister鈥檚 average bill is).





Anyway, thank you very much for reading this, if you did. I had to get this off my chest so bad. I鈥檓 going insane.

all of this is true.





Luckily I'm at a grammar school, so a lot of the chumps have been filtered out. My group of friends is the largest in the school, and we all rate intelligence very highly. We would probably be traditional style nerds at other schools though. (love games, play D and D and Magic, compete in national maths / engineering / music competitions) also spend summer holidays looking after disabled children





I think that my awesome group of friends has definitely helped me succeed by encouraging academic / social development, and i really pity people who don't have the chances i have because of this.I feel like people/dating/popularity in High School is immature. Do you? PLEASE ANSWER!!! =)?
It sucks, but what can you do? High school is full of immature brats, and they don't grow up until...well, let's just say it's too late. I tend not to care about what happens to others. They do what they wanna do in life, and I'll just do what I want. So while I'm making millions of dollars, you'll be working at Burger King. ;)
I'm about to enter my junior year in high school, and I agree with many of your opinions! Luckily I was able to find quite a few good friends who aren't like that. Try talking to some people in class who are quieter and don't look like they have many friends - chances are they don't fit in with the popular ditzy girls either!
i felt the same way. but then i realized that they were just like me- they only have different interests. i found it easier to accept all the different types of people rather than hate them. it's funner to befriend all these different types of people even though you hate them because you never know, you might actually like them.





all i'm saying is you should be less pessimistic towards the people at your school. some people may surprise you
yeah.. alot of people in high school can be immature i agree. but it's high school, so you'll have that.. and if your a freshman, you'll just have to deal with it until it's over and then again in college when you get there. you shouldn't be worrying about how other people think and act because whatever you do won't change it, even if you don't like others' lifestyles. sorry but the things you're talking about are pointing out individualities and everyone has interests in different things, whether that be they are more interested in sports than their academics, the music they listen to, or the clothes they wear. being mad about it won't do anything but give yourself a bigger headache. just ignore it with the ability you have until you learn to live with it dude...

That's what its all about, sex,appearance,drugs,and how popular you are. I was the same as you...actually, as a Junior, I still am. My mom just would tell me that im simply ahead of my time.





and at least at your school they take sports seriously! its a freakingg hang out time at my school. Our teams suck @ss.





As far as popularity, everyone its just trying to fit in especially freshman year, that's what its all about. By your senior year or maybe afterwards,most will realized how ridiculous they were acting just to fit in.





Unfortunately with this way of thinking you automatically will be labeled lame. When actually your better and smarter than the people that labeled you as so.





My advice. Just put up with it. Im all most done [ thank you lordd ] but still I just hate the place. I have manage to survive high school without losing my respect or myself in the process.In total I have three TRUE friends, the rest are acquaintances. just someone to talk to to pass the time.

I know exactly what you mean dude! Thankfully, I went to a very diverse high school, where a good portion were underprivileged, couldn't speak English, and barely had enough money to wear something new everyday.





However, like in any high school, you'll have the jocks and the popular chicks. And trust me, it's all about personality, more than image. I've met the most modest looking girls, who act like total ';popular material.'; While I do admit, clothing is VERY important in high school (something too many parents don't understand!) and yes, it does say a lot about you.





The first big shocker for me personally, was the drugs and sex. It was rampant in my school. Girls, you could pass at least 10 in the hallways, all pregnant. And you could tell when at least 3 kids in your class just got high. Again, it's image. Some might tell you, ';emotional release'; but honestly, in high school, everyone is DESPERATELY trying to fit it.





As a girl who wasn't born in the country, my biggest advice is: find your ';group of buddies'; and stick with them. You probably already are doing that, which is great. Those people who spent high school dating, getting high, and getting pregnant, usually end up spending little to no time studying. In the end, you'll come from your successful job to a McDonald's for a quick snack, and they will probably be there serving your soft drink.





We're teenagers! We're emotionally unstable and need this stupid, unnecessary stuff to feel good and fit in. I spent a good four months convincing my parents I NEEDED an iPod Touch...and in the end, I don't use it that much.





P.S. I only dated one guy in high school, and it didn't work. And there's a high chance, the person you date in high school, you aren't going to live a long happy life with. Wait till college, when we finally have grown up! (Hopefully!) :)

Anyways I totally agree with you about the materialistic things and the iPhone. I was going to get one but when I found out that I could get an LG Vu for free that does the exact same stuff as a iphone I got it. And I'm so tired of rap it is so annoying! Also when my friends get a new boyfriend they obsess over him and they talk about how much they love him and they've only gone out 2 days! It is ridiculous!
here in a few weeks i will be entering my Junior year in high school and i complete agree their are some many stupid people who do all these drugs and alcohol having sex at young ages girls getting pregnant i think its all pathetic then they criticize u pretty much about not having sex my say better to wait when married then under age but what can you do let them mess up their life but whose to blame is their parents for not doing their job BTW most people who do drugs in school end up drooping out





Popularity exactly why must u be to impress other kids its really selfish most of them are pricks anyways i don't see why they have 2 do this what really irritates me is they go around thinking they are god's gift to the world please i seen 4th graders more mature then that





Dating my opinion what's the point they never even last long it just shows they will never have a future and aren't serious about their education and getting into college





i would also like to add the fighting why do it it really proves no point except stupidity and you are doing nothing but getting into trouble where are their parents teaching them about bullying and how they shouldn't do it and some of the most stupidest fights happened in junior high at my school someone either fought over a guy/girl come on how immature of you





also the girls and their drama seriously why can't they just grow up stop crying and quite worrying bout what other people think of them thats life nobody wants to sit their and listen to you cry cause somebody called you ugly or called u a sl*t its life people will act like that you jsut got to learn their are people like that and just ignore it
I totally agree with you on a lot of things! It's just that people are shallow and don't see the meaning of things and think they're better than everyone else. Don't sweat it. If someone's trying to make you mad, don't give in because you are giving them what they want. Don't worry, just live your life and hang out with people that you like. :D
