This is a true story from the WordPerfect helpline. The help desk employee featured in this story was fired; however, he/she is currently suing the Word Perfect organization for ';Termination without Cause.';
Actual dialogue of a former WordPerfect Customer Support employee with a caller:
';Ridge Hall computer assistant; may I help you?';
';Yes, well, I'm having trouble with WordPerfect.';
';What sort of trouble?';
';Well, I was just typing along, and all of a sudden the words went away.';
';Went away?';
';They disappeared.';
';Hmm. So what does your screen look like now?';
';Nothing.';
';Nothing?';
';It's blank; it won't accept anything when I type.';
';Are you still in WordPerfect, or did you get out?';
';How do I tell?';
';Can you see the C: prompt on the screen?';
';What's a sea-prompt?';
';Never mind. Can you move the cursor around on the screen?';
';There isn't any cursor, I told you, it won't accept anything I type.';
';Does your monitor have a power indicator?';
';What's a monitor?';
';It's the thing with the screen on it that looks like a TV. Does it have a little light that tells you when it's on?';
';I don't know.';
';Well then, look on the back of the monitor and find where the power cord goes into it. Can you see that?';
';Yes, I think so.';
';Great. Follow the cord to the plug, and tell me if it's plugged into the wall.';
';... ...Yes, it is.';
';When you were behind the monitor, did you notice that there were two cables plugged into the back of it, not just one?';
';No.';
';Well, there are. I need you to look back there again and find the other cable.';
';... ...Okay, here it is.';
';Follow it for me, and tell me if it's plugged securely into the back of your computer.';
';I can't reach.';
';Uh huh. Well, can you see if it is?';
';No.';
';Even if you maybe put your knee on something and lean way over?';
';Oh, it's not because I don't have the right angle - it's because it's dark.';
';Dark?';
';Yes - the office light is off, and the only light I have is coming in from the window.';
';Well, turn on the office light then.';
';I can't.';
';No? Why not?';
';Because there's a power outage.';
';A power... A power outage? Ah, Okay, we've got it licked now. Do you still have the boxes and manuals and packing stuff your computer came in?';
';Well, yes, I keep them in the closet.';
';Good. Go get them, and unplug your system and pack it up just like it was when you got it. Then take it back to the store you bought it from.';
';Really? Is it that bad?';
';Yes, I'm afraid it is.';
';Well, all right then, I suppose. What do I tell them?';
';Tell them you're too stupid to own a computerDo you think this woman was very upset?
HAHAHAHAHA...thank you SOO much for posting that. That has to be the funniest thing i've ever read in my life.
I dont think she has any right to be angry, like omg, ';the power's out, why wont my computer work!!!';Do you think this woman was very upset?
yes!
Sorry - this was around when the dinosaurs ruled the planet.

This is a fake story.
funny
hahaha that's quite funny.
ITS TOO LONG TO READ!!!
but the woman probably was mad??
LOL that's funny
xx
good for that phone helper!!
thats funny sounds like summat my dad would phone up about
cute story
she should be fired
but that is hilarious
(and true)
ahaa you made me laugh, thank you!
very good, but i think its one of those urban myths that you read about, heard something similar numerous times.
lol yes
No I'd say she's mad or frustrated.
Bless, we all have our dumb days, lol.
Well I think they were right on point.
LOL! She probably was a little mad! Merry Christmas! :D
was that stupid woman being serious?
To be honest the operator should not talk like that to a customer. I would expected to be fired if i said that to a customer.
xx
I think she really picked the wrong industry to work in if she got nasty to that old person like that. Everyone knows old people are completely helpless when it comes to technology and thats just how ignorant they really are.
Anyway its most likely fake as during a huge power outage phone lines would not work either.....
That sounds like a good joke, but I probably would have said the same thing to the customer. Should she have been fired, yes because she was not professional at all, there's a saying ';the customer is always right'; she should have been more respectful to the customer. Should she sue them... I don't think so because she was rude to the customer.
ya i think she is a little upset
that lady shouldnt be upset. its not our fault she stupid!
hahahahaha...LOL LOL...the help desk employee probably was thinking out loud, but LOL i would of said the same thing.
That was a classic! Made me laugh till I spilled my coffee! I can truly BELIEVE it!
Sounds like she had finally gotten the last straw!
yes of course she's upset if that women said that to my mom
i would just pull her hair out or cuss at her
Well, if she sues, she obviously is quite upset. I believe the support tech did not behave well with the customer: no matter how stupid the customer is, just don't tell 'em.
However, don't get me wrong here: I am definitely on the tech's side... She was quite stupid to think a PC could work in a power outage...
This story isn't true, but if it was it would be funny and I would understand the employee's side, some people are real idiots.
Morning, Noon, And Night I so-o-o-o-o-o-o look forward to you. You've got to be a hoot to live with.
How many times in my life I would have loved to have been that clever.!!
To Funny!!!
